Hello everyone, just sharing my interview/trial class experience with Orange Talk. I got through to the first interview and my profile said book 2nd, 3rd, 4th trial classes. Before my first trial class, I messaged them and asked whether teachers are required to do 4 unpaid trial classes before starting, they informed me that they don’t if they pass the 1st time. So I just had my first trial class and would like to share my experience.
My first trial class was with a lady who supposed to have acted like a child. She told me I had to stand up for the entire class and had 10 minutes to do the 30 mins lesson.
For 80% of the class she wasn’t looking at me but was just writing on her notepad, she wasn’t acting like a child and she wouldn’t do what I was asking most of the time.
I was very energetic, used props, enthusiastic, used simple words and used Manycam as well.
Straight after I finished she smiled for a second, said well done for the energy, then after that she criticized me on literally everything I did for at least 15 minutes for things that I did right as well when I did it the exact same way as she told me I should have done. She said that I had to explain and teach the song words before I play the songs and add basically so many things that would have made it a 25 mins class and would have not been able to do in 10 minutes, she basically picked on every single word and every single action I did, I shouldn’t have used Manycam, I shouldn’t have said can you … but only do the action etc… She told me that I can sign up for my second trial class after. At the end, I told her that she didn’t act like a child or tried to and that a real class would have been very different and that she didn’t even look at me for most of the class and that I will not be going further or booking any other trial classes, wasting my time and left.
I have got 3 years experience for working for many online companies but this has been my worst interview/trial class experience yet. I don’t need to do 4 unpaid trial classes to prove that I can teach children after so many amazing relationships and great feedback with so many children through other platforms I work for (I have had interviews with more than 15 companies now, have been offered jobs with more than 10, have taught more than 1000 Chinese children etc….) If you are working for Orange Talk and you love it, then I am happy for you and maybe my experience is a one off and my interviewer was just pretty bad but anyway, this might be helpful for some of you.

I do not recommend this company. Bookings dropped for all teachers in November and December. Many teachers are reporting the company has not paid them for work completed in December
