Company Information for Vivaling

Parents enroll their children in one-to-one online video sessions with native language coaches. Children also play language and culture-oriented games. Just finished with a second interview with Vivaling. I was initially interested with this company because of the higher rates they were offering. They were advertising up to 38 dollars an hour. They asked for a sample video of me teaching to students, which I provided. They seemed impressed and offered an interview. The initial interview went very well. I liked their approach to teaching. Then the second interview came.
It just seemed off. The payment tier seemed very complicated. You start off by making something like $5.50 a class, but it goes up retroactively once you hit 100 classes (and then again at 500 classes). After working for many shady schools in Korea, this set my radar off. I never want a school to be able to save money by firing me.
And then there is the training. It’s a month long process that will earn you a certificate to be an online instructor. It normally costs 500 dollars, but they were willing to let me buy it for 300. This was just considered a down payment on my employment, because they would refund this cost after you have taught 1000 classes (500 hours). This is something I definitely would have liked mentioned in the ad. This is a hard pass for me.
Responses:
Not a scam, I am currently doing my course with them, i am half way with it. Not only is this not a scam, but a very very very professional company. We as coaches have regular training meetings with them to check our process. If you have questions regarding vivaling, message me and I can tell you the facts. Also, just do a little research before you decide that its a scam. You are putting this company in a bad light.
But there is also a 3 month course they can put you on if you dont have experience, plus that money goes back to you of you commit and do a number of hours with them, plus the certificate is internationally recognized for future employers!
I have been working at VivaLing for the past two years, and I can’t recommend it enough. The learners and their families are lovely to work with, and since the market is mostly in Europe, rather than in China compared to many other online companies, the hours are much more comfortable for me in the US. Another comment below described the complexity in pay, but that has not been my experience at all. After training and upon signing the contract, pay starts at $20 an hour and then allows for promotions up to $26. Besides solid pay and wonderful students, the best part of VivaLing is the coach community. I have always felt a part of something bigger and not just a number. I feel like a valued member of a team with administrators and other coaches alike encouraging and helping me along. There are opportunities for professional development to support us as educators, not just native speakers. VivaLing has been developing new and interactive curriculum that is fun to work with, but we have a lot of flexibility to incorporate games and other activities to personalize lessons and make them more engaging for the students – and ourselves! After working at another company that had very rigid materials, I felt robotic, and I was losing my passion to teach. VivaLing has changed all of that, and I couldn’t ask for more out of a company!
I have worked for multiple online companies and from my experience, working as a coach with Vivaling has been by far my favorite. The way we can make lessons tailored to the specific child and use a wide variety of resources allows us as coaches to make the lessons much more dynamic and engaging. It also is a very unique work experience. I work from home, but Vivaling has a community of teachers and we have occasional online meetings and keep in touch via messages. I have really enjoyed it and highly recommend it to anyone looking to teach English lessons online (though I would include in that recommendation that writing lessons is a lot of work and requires at least basic knowledge of teaching, ESL curriculum/techniques, and working with children.) It is great pay (I am currently making $26/hour) and there are opportunities to grow in areas of recruitment or administration. I love the company and can’t say enough great things about it!
I have been working for Vivaling for nearly four years now.
I was an experienced classroom teacher and the Vivaling VOLT training course really helped me to adapt to teaching online
Vivaling have been excellent at seeing the coaches` strengths and giving them opportunities for professional development. Over the last 4 years I have worked on projects to create a curriculum, assessments, to improve the training course and management systems.
You will never be “just” a coach as the coaches are the greatest resource the company has, so you will always feel valued and part of a community.
Hello 🌼. I am a teacher from South Africa and I would really love to teach online. I enjoyed it so much during covid 19 when we had online lessons with students. I need someone to coach me.
I have been working for Vivaling a little over a year,I have worked in other online schools, but never like this, this is my favorite. I don’t know about you but sometimes when you are given the classes and have to follow exactly what they say makes it hard on the student and yourself. It is true that you do a course before teacher, but you need it 100 percent, everything I learned in the course I have used in my classes. Vivaling genuinely believes in its teachers, they give you the trust to adapt the lesson to the students, so time goes fast because the lesson was made by you catered to the student’s needs.
There is a group, where you can ask any questions you may have and everyone is helps everyone, we really are a community, I have seen nothing but professionalism in every area. If something happens in class, they answer immediately. Pay is great! No complaint at all there. Overall, I have nothing bad to say about it, I love working here and hope to someday grow even more and get involved in other areas if possible.

I have not yet started but I have heard very nice words from coaches for this program. I do have experience teaching on line. During COVID I taught on line through ZOOM for almost two years mostly students in grades 6-8. I am awaiting to join this team of coaches.

Dear OET Jobs,
Thank you for the overall positive review of VivaLing that you have provided and thank you for taking the time to include our company on your website.
There are a few recent updates which we would like to share with you to provide a more precise picture of our company.
As of the beginning of 2022 we adjusted our hourly pay to better reflect the present day economic situation, our hourly base rate pay depends on the language taught, experience and training. For English coaches our base rate pay has been adjusted to $12 – $14 per hour. We also offer performance based bonuses.
Our teacher training is offered for free to all successful applicants at a value of US$500, which provides an opportunity to develop the applicant’s skills and to grow professionally. The training is self guided which means this can be completed in less than 2 weeks and the teaching practice is paid. All this comes with a trainer who will provide personal guidance and support throughout the course.
We highly encourage all our coaches to create their own material to personalise each session and we provide a VivaLing curriculum as well as other resources so that coaches have options. This allows for adaptability and creativity instead of having to stick to a set structure in every session.
Our minimum availability requirement is 12 peak hours per week spread over multiple days. Our peak hours are European after school hours and all day Wednesday, Friday and Saturday CET/CEST.
We hope we have been able to provide you with our new updates and please feel free to contact us if you should have any questions.
Thank you and have a great day!
The VivaLing Team
