What types of equipment are required – computer, headset, camera
You will need a laptop or desktop that has been purchased within the last five or so years. Either a Windows or MAC OS will work. Make sure that you have a strong internet connection as well. It is preferred that you have a wired internet connection. However, it is not a requirement. Just make sure you have a connection of at least 10mbps down and 5mps down.
Make sure that you have a headset with a microphone. It is preferable that you have one with a noise-canceling microphone. This helps to ensure that any extra background noise is muffled and reduces sounds from your keyboard.
Most standard built-in cameras will meet their standards. Having a newer HD camera is better but not required.
Recruitment Process
First Interview – Getting To Know You
During the first interview, you will be asked about your background, teaching methods, education, related experience, and availability. You are graded on those criteria and your overall abilities as a teacher given by your responses.
Make sure that you fully understand the types of positions available at Sprout. You should also know that you are going to commit to a fixed schedule of the same students for certain lengths of time. If you are the type of teacher who cannot commit to teaching the same students for 1-3 months at a time on a set schedule then this is not the job for you. Be sure to read over the details of the job here.
Second Interview – Mock Class
You will be conducting a mock class in a Zoom meeting room. You will need to download Zoom and get yourself familiar with the Zoom functions like share screen, annotation and how to share your computer sound. The mock class slides are provided for you ahead of time. Take the time to look over the materials to ensure that you are well prepared.
This is the most important part of the process. However, it is straightforward and involves you conducting a practice lesson in Zoom with the provided mock class materials. The interviewer will be pretending to be a student. You will do fine during this phase as long as you have practiced the materials beforehand, are in a well-lit teaching environment, and show enthusiasm.
You will be graded on your use of TPR, pronunciation skills, effective teaching strategies, appropriate guidance for the student level, rapport, and how well you reward and give affirmation to the student. These are the typical skills that are required for nearly every school that teaches children online.
Sign The Contract
Ok, great you made it! Now you will sign a contract. Some personal information is required such as weekly opening teaching hours, a copy of diploma, copy of passport(blackout your passport number), your biography for students to see, photo, and self-introduction video. The pay rate will be confirmed when you sign the contract. The minimum weekly opening hour is 8 hours.
Rehearsal Class
This is to make sure you are ready to start teaching. Before the rehearsal, you are provided the teacher training video, class materials, and are expected to practice ahead of time. Rehearsals can be performed one or more times until you are fully comfortable with teaching at Sprout. The trainer will organize the rehearsal class and pretend to be a student during the lesson. It is one trainer and 2-3 three new teachers during the rehearsal. Feedback and advice will be given to the teacher after rehearsal.
Account and Password
After the rehearsal, you will be given an account and password. This will allow you to login to the teachers portal to see your weekly schedule, information for your students and classes.
Designated Contact
You will be assigned a designated contact. If you have any questions or need help you can turn to this person for help. One of the best things about teaching at Sprout4Future is their support!
