My Background
Hi, my name is Nikki, and I have been teaching online since 2013. I have a background in finance and mergers & acquisitions, but I fell in love teaching ESL to junior and adult students.
I am currently working at multiple online schools — TutorABC (iTutorGroup, VIPKID, Palfish, and Cambly. Today we are going to focus on iTutor Group. For those of you who have a negative view of iTutor Group, please watch the video. No job is perfect and iTutor has been implementing changes to help improve the system and teaching environment. I have been fortunate enough to be part of the process. If you think you qualify as a teacher you can send your info by filling in the form below. The form also allows you to send me your resume. I also help mentor those of you who want to work for VIPKID.
You can also contact me below about Cambly and Palfish.
Note: Nikki is now working with non-native teachers applying to iTutor. Feel free to contact her if you qualify as a teacher for iTutor!
Teaching Tips
If teaching children talk about TPR, props, interview best practices: Make sure to use a lot of TPR (total physical response) and make sure that student is responding in order for the TPR to be successful. In addition, props help students understand that commands more and realize give the student ideas on what exactly you are talking about.
Tips for new teachers: Patience is key. Take your time and put some effort into making your profile attractive and informative. It takes awhile to build regulars, but if you really put some thought into your profile, then getting regular students gets easier.
Tips for teachers wanting to switch jobs: Write down a wish list of what exactly you are looking for i.e. high base rate, flexibility, available hours, lenient cancellation policy, good working conditions
Interview tips: Be yourself during the standard interview.
During the mock: Be cheerful but not overly silly. Use a lot of TPR and props. Speak slowly and minimize incidental language as much as you can.
Your favorite company to work for and why: I love TutorABC and VIPKID. TutorABC allows me to teach even during off-peak hours and their cancellation policy is not strict. You can cancel more than 24 hours in advance and you won’t be penalized. I also love VIPKID because I can open as much or as little as I want. However, I am not a big fan of their cancellation policy and I have limited hours with them.
